It’s fair to say that 2020 has been an interesting and challenging year for everyone.
On a personal level, I’ve experienced quite a few changes and made a few moves. I was couch-surfing for the better half of the year then moved to Colorado from California to start a new life. I lost my job due to Covid, started a new one more recently… and brewed my first beer in my new state.
I had always wanted to brew a white stout so I convinced my friend Josh Daugherty to join me on the adventure. Josh is not a huge fan of stouts and probably even less of coffee, but the beer turned out pretty good. We added some cacao nibs and coffee to make the beer more stout-y. I’d say it was a success, but I would definitely consider dialing down a bit on the coffee if I brewed it again.
It was also my first time brewing in a kitchen. It totally works, which makes me happy given that it started snowing and I’m not sure I would want to be in the garage. Brrr…
Josh being a huge Back to the Future fan, we named the beer Doc Emmett White Stout. Get it?
